Sand Engine Fire Pit Section Model

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

LAR 7340, “Site Assembly,” taught by Zaneta Hong is developing large scale landscape detail models.  Nathan Burgess, 1st year M LAR student, decided to design this element in conjunction with his studio project. Studio LAR 6020 is working on designing a “sand engine” for Norfolk, VA: the longshore current gradually disperses sand onto the shore in order to thicken the shoreline. The professors also charged the students to design a human-scale element that would catch sand and remain after the sand has completed its dispersal. Pictured above is a section model of his Fire Pit over the ocean.
