Inside the A-School, SoA

Clark-Howe Symposium

Clarke Construction is sponsoring this series of guest lectures from working professionals in honor of Joe Howe (1924-2009) who taught construction practice management at the Schools of Architecture and Engineering for over 30 years.

They are coordinated as lectures for this year’s undergraduate 3rd year “Building Matters” course taught by Professor Lester Yuen, who is also a Design Director and Senior Associate at Gensler (Head TA Jeremy Chinnis, with TA’s Sophia Lee, Michael Levy-Bajar, and Joel Trantham).

Today we were fortunate to hear about the new United States Institute of Peace Building on the National Mall in Washington D.C. They discussed the challenges of the difficult site conditions, the curving roof structure, and interior environment conditions. Our presenters were Craig Schwitter, Principle from Buro Happold; Mark Goodwin, Project Executive, Clark Construction Group, LLC; and Ken Carlson, Sr. VP Clark Construction Group, LLC.
